چکیده
Mediastinal bronchogenic cysts present problems in diagnosis and management.' 2 A smooth, rounded appearance of the radiological shadow and proximity to central airways suggests the diagnosis. Nevertheless, recent experience with computed tomography indicates that nearly half of the lesions studied appear to be solid in density, and even those that are fluid filled may sometimes be confused with a malignant tumour undergoing central necrosis.3 Compression of vital structures by mediastinal bronchogenic cysts may cause symptoms, especially in young patients. Infection and haemoptysis, though less frequent in mediastinal than in parenchymal bronchogenic cysts, also occur occasionally. Surgical

Role of Endobronchial Ultrasound in the Diagnosis of Bronchogenic Cysts
Diagnosis of bronchogenic cysts is possible with computed tomography, but half of all cases present as soft tissue densities. Two such cases are highlighted where asymptomatic bronchogenic cysts that presented as soft tissue masses were evaluated by endobronchial ultrasound (EBUS). After studying the ultrasound image characteristics, the diagnosis was confirmed using EBUS-guided transbronchial ...
متن کاملMediastinitis of bronchogenic cyst caused by endobronchial ultrasound-guided transbronchial needle aspiration
Here, we describe the case of a 56-year-old female patient who was diagnosed with an anterior mediastinal cyst measuring 26 × 16 mm in size. An endobronchial ultrasound-guided transbronchial needle aspiration was performed, and punctures occurred three times. The patient was then prescribed cefditoren pivoxil. Three days after the procedure, the patient developed infective mediastinitis. Panipe...
متن کاملBronchogenic Cyst Rupture and Pneumonia after Endobronchial Ultrasound-Guided Transbronchial Needle Aspiration: A Case Report
We report a 54-year-old woman who presented with a well-defined, homogeneous, and non-enhancing mass in the retrobronchial region of the bronchus intermedius. The patient underwent endobronchial ultrasound-guided transbronchial needle aspiration (EBUS-TBNA) for histological confirmation. Serous fluid was aspirated by EBUS-TBNA. Cytological examination identified an acellular smear with negative...
متن کاملTransbronchial fine needle aspiration of bronchogenic cysts.
Transbronchial fine needle aspiration (TBFNA) was used to confirm the diagnosis of bronchogenic cyst in two asymptomatic patients with mediastinal masses who declined surgical exploration. Both masses were located subcarinally but differed in computed tomographic density (7 and 59 Hounsfield units). Aspirate cytology demonstrated predominately bronchial columnar epithelial cells in mucus, witho...
متن کاملRole of Endobronchial Ultrasound in the Diagnosis and Management of Bronchogenic Cysts: Two Case Descriptions and Literature Review
Imaging studies, such as high resolution computerized tomography (HRCT) and magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) facilitate the evaluation of mediastinal masses. However, the definite characterization of such masses can be ascertained only after tissue sampling is obtained and analyzed. Some mediastinal masses, like bronchogenic cysts, can be misdiagnosed as solid masses or lymphadenopathy in imagi...
